Denotation and Connotation
Denotation - There is text and behind it is a wall. There is also a child who looks a bit upset. There is also a tree and a hut in the background.
Connotation - The boy's facial expressions is upset which makes us feel guilty and sad for him. Some of the colours that have been used are dark colours which might represent sadness. Furthermore, the words 'Dig toilets' shows how they are in desperate need. By doing this, it makes the audience feel bad for the child and makes them want to donate to WaterAid.
Analysis - This advert makes the audience feel guilty and makes them want to donate to WaterAid. The effect of guilt and sadness is created by the use of the words 'Dig toilets' which shows they are in desperate need as instead of asking to build toilets, they are asking people to help them dig toilets. Moreover, the text 'Dig toilets Not graves' conveys how serious this issue is as the word 'graves' is related to death. The effect of guilt and sadness is also created from the child's expressions.
