Reception theory

 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

What the producers want the audience to believe and intend to communicate.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

When the audience believe the opposite of what the producers wanted to communicate or what they wanted to the audience to believe.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

It positions them to think that the teenagers characters are violent.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

Young people construct an oppositional reading as many young people might be non-violent and talented.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

Negotiated reading
The negotiated reading for this advert might that the Big Mac is full of flavours and delicious but may not be filling, as MacDonald's meal can be unfilling. The negotiated reading might also be that it has some healthy and unhealthy elements to it.

Opposite reading
The opposite reading for this advert is that the Big Mac looks and tastes disgusting. It also might be that the Big Mac could be unhealthy for you and can be unfilling. The opposite reading for this advert is also that the Big Mac could be too big and needs to be smaller and more filling.
