January assessment learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

Total = 15 = Grade = 4

WWW - A solid assessment that shows some good knowledge of the film CSPs. if you can develop consistency and exam technique you can definitely move up to the higher levels.

EBI - Revise industry and audience terminology and theory.

LR - See blog

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully (you'll need your Greenford Google login to access this). Write down the mark you achieved for each question:

Q1: 0/1
Q2: 1/1
Q3: 3/8
Q4: 0/2
Q5: 2/2
Q6: 9/20

Where you didn't achieve full marks, write WHY you think you missed out on the extra marks. Use the indicative content suggestions in the mark scheme to help with this. If you got any media terminology wrong in the assessment you can make a note of it here.

Q1) I think I didn't achieve full marks on the first question because I couldn't decide between madness and suicide.
Q3) I think I didn't achieve full marks on the third question because I couldn't think of any oppositional readings for the advert.
Q4) I think I didn't achieve full marks on the fourth question because I mixed up horizontal and vertical integration.
Q6) I think I didn't achieve full marks on the sixth question because I needed to add more detail in my answer and the marketing techniques that were used.

3) Look specifically at question 3 - did you successfully write about both the preferred and oppositional readings? Did your answers match any in the mark scheme? Copy in one answer from the mark scheme that you could have used.

Yes and no, I got 3 marks for the preferred reading part but failed to get any marks for oppositional reading. One thing I could've written for oppositional reading is t
he target audience might find the image intimidating.

4) Now look at question 4. Write a definition of vertical integration plus the benefits of it to revise this key industry terminology. You may find the blogpost on ownership and control helpful here.

When conglomerate owns different companies that are in the same chain of production.
The benefits of vertical integration are:
  • More profit
  • Having complete ownership over creative products
  • Greater control of each stage of production
5) Finally, look at your 20-mark essay - question 6Read this exemplar answer to help give you an idea of what a top-level response looks like. Then, write a new essay plan for this question, using the suggested answers in the mark scheme and the exemplar to help you. Use a format like this:

Introduction - answer the question: I partially agree with this statement as many independent and low budget films do success and make a lot of revenue but also Hollywood blockbusters also make much more revenue and more profit. They also have a higher budget.

I, Daniel Blake main points: Budget -£2 million, Box office
£11 million, Made 5x its budget, Marketing - Guerrilla marketing: Projected 'I Daniel Blake' on the houses of parliament, Free screenings, Ken loach (director of the film) went of BBC question time. Main point of the movie wasn't to make profit but was to educate people about the social issues.

Black Widow main points: Budget - $200 million, Marketing - $100 million Box office - $379 million, Disappointment for marvel as normally their movies go over $800 million in revenue, Marketing - Billboards, Social media, Posters, Teasers, Trailers and Scarlett Johansson went on many interviews. Star power - Both Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh were in the film, Also was a blockbuster movie. Released during covid, Highest box office since covid.

Optional additional paragraph if you wish:

Conclusion - sum up your argument in one sentence: In conclusion I am ambivalent with the statement as some independent and low budget films become successful but make less revenue than most Hollywood blockbusters.
