1) Read page 2. What is KISS FM's mission?

KISS FM's mission is to provide young audiences with entertainment and allow them to listen to KISS Radio anywhere and on any device.

2) Look at page 3. What is the target audience for KISS FM? As well as writing the key statistics from the media pack, try and suggest what psychographic groups would fit the KISS audience too.

Their target audience is young people (15 - 34). It is a 60/40 Female-to-male split. There are over 1.3m downloads of the KISS Kube App. Their audience is predominantly urban but there is an increasing national of 65% now living outside of London. Their social platforms are reaching a potential of 321m people.

They use digital media and technology by presenting content that young listeners love and the things that they are interested in.

4) Now look at the other side of page 5. What content do KISS Fresh and KISSTORY offer and how can audiences access those stations?  

On KISS Fresh you will find exclusive first plays of the biggest track from some of the hottest artists and producers in the industry. It plays the biggest urban and rhythmic tunes in Hip Hop, Dance, House and Afrobeats. KISS Fresh is available on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), Freeview, and Sky, on the KISS Kube app, and on social media and events.

On KISSTORY you will find old-school anthems from R'n'B, Dance, Garage and Hip Hop. KISSTORY is available on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), Freeview, and Sky, on the KISS Kube app, and on social media and events.

5) Read page 6. What are the different ways audiences can actively engage with the KISS radio brand? 

The audience can actively engage with the KISS radio brand in 4 ways - Online, App, Radio and live events.

6) Are listeners to the KISS Breakfast show active or passive? You can argue this point either way - explain your opinion in your answer.

I think the KISS Breakfast show's listeners are passive as they listen and consume the media that KISS Breakfast presents to them. However, some listeners are active as they interact with the show via the app or online. KISS FM also run a lot of events throughout the year where their audience can interact with them.

7) Now think about the clips you've watched or listened to of the KISS FM Breakfast show with Jordan and Perri. What audience pleasures are offered by the KISS FM Breakfast show? Use Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory here.

Diversion/Entertainment - They play music and tell jokes which entertain the listeners.
Surveillance - They might learn about different types of music and could learn a fact.
Personal identity - Listeners might be able to relate to the relationship that Jordan and Perry as they are best friends.
Personal relationship - People could've seen Perri in the Diversity group before.

8) How have audiences changed in terms of how they listen to music and radio since the 1960s?

In the 1960s people used Radio a lot as it was the only way to listen to music but nowadays there are streaming platforms that allow you to listen to anything you want.

9) How does the KISS FM Breakfast show contrast with Tony Blackburn's 1967 Radio 1 Breakfast show and the launch of BBC Radio 1?

The KISS FM Breakshow contrasts with Tony Blackburn's 1967 Radio 1 Breakfast show as in KISS FM they bring guests to come to talk with them and Jordan and Perri also interact with them through the app or online. They also talk with each other about things that are happening around the world.

10) Use Stuart Hall's Reception theory to offer a preferred and oppositional reading of the KISS FM Breakfast show. For the preferred reading, why do fans love the show? On the oppositional side, why might someone criticise the show or not want to listen?

Preferred reading - The preferred reading of the KISS FM Breakfast show might be to enjoy the amazing music and jokes they present to you and have a good time with Jordan and Perri and feel like you are there with them.
Oppositional reading - The oppositional reading of the KISS FM breakfast show might be that people don't like the music they present or might dislike the things they say on the show.

KISS FM first launched on 7th October 1985 and was a pirate radio station.

4) How many listeners does the KISS Breakfast show have and how has this changed in recent years?

They have 980,000 listeners. This has changed in recent years because before when the show was hosted by Rickie, Melvin and Charlie they had over 2 million listeners and when Jordan and Perri took over the listeners went down to 1.4 million.

5) How is KISS FM regulated and what can happen if they break the rules?

KISS FM is regulated by OFCOM so they have to follow their rules and if they break the rules they can receive a huge fine.
