Introduction - Heat Media pack

2) Now go to page 3 of the Media Pack - celebrity focus. What does the page say that Heat offers readers?

They offer celebrity gossip and everything about them

3) Now look at page 4 of the Heat Media Pack. What other content does Heat magazine offer its readers aside from celebrity news?

They offer shopping advice and where to get the best items for things.

4) Look at page 5. What is Heat magazine's audience profile? Write all the key details of their audience here. 

Female / Male = 90% / 10%
Avg age = 37
Age profile = 52% aged 15/34
Segment = 50% ABC1
Marital Status = 57% Married (or living with partner) / 43% single 

Media language

1) How are the cover lines written to make the audience want to buy the magazine?

They talk about celebrity gossip which makes people become interested. 

2) What are the connotations of the Heat colour scheme on this particular front cover?

The colour scheme for heat is pink, white and yellow. The connotations of the colour pink are romance and love. 

3) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. paparazzi images or aspects of mise-en-scene such props, costume, make-up, body position, facial expression etc.)

Paparazzi images

The pictures of the celebrities are paparazzi images which show celebrities as normal people and people who live normal lives.

More images

The cover is busier with images which shows that there is a lot more gossip and stories to read about celebrities.

4) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Heat? List at least three differences and explain the effect on audiences.

In the Heat magazine there are more pictures of celebrities - Telling the audience that there is a lot of celebrity gossip in the magazine.

Central image (Emma Weymouth) in Tatler is wearing a rich and colourful dress - Telling the audience that the magazine is targeted to high social class people.

More colours - In heat cover there is more colours used this attracts the audience and catches their attention. 

Media Representations

1) What type of celebrities appear on the front cover of Heat? List them here. 

Posh, high-status and wealthy celebrities mainly appear on the front cover of Heat.
 
Harry and Meghan - Apart of the Royal family shows that the Royal family are important and have play an important role in your life

Liam and Cheryl - Pop stars 

2) How are celebrities represented in Heat? (Positively? Negatively? Reinforcing or challenging stereotypes?)

Most of the celebrities are challenging stereotypes as in the images they are represented as normal people who have a little fame whereas a celebrity would normally be famous. 

3) How are women represented on the cover of Heat? Think about both images and cover lines here.

Women in the Heat cover are represented as independent women as most of the images have women in them. Moreover Giovanna is called a celeb exclusive which conveys that women don't need the help of men to become famous. However on the bottom right corner of the cover there is a shopping advert with a women which reinforces the stereotype that women do all the shopping

4) How do Heat and Tatler represent social class? What different social classes can you find in the features and celebrities on the cover? (E.g. middle/upper class / working class)

Tatler represent upper social class by making Emma Weymouth wear a fancy and colourful dress. In the heat cover you can also find upper class because a lot of celebrities are there and the royal family is also there. You can also find middle class in the heat cover as the celebrities are representing as normal people.
